Shade Cloth... that's a task!

I must apologize here, I thought I posted last week. Must be I'm getting old now that I'm 3*cough7cough* its been a very busy couple of weeks! So let's get this post started!
When you are trying to grow plants in summer, that don't like the summer sun, you have to invest in shade cloth. And, if you're lucky, it will come in a roll 26 feet wide and 50 feet long. Ok, maybe that last part wasn't really lucky. And how do you cut this to fit over beds that are 50 feet long but only 30 inches wide? Well, you roll out that bad boy, keep it folded in half and get that chalk line stuff (it's kind of like a tape measure but its string and chalk) and you make a line 65 inches because it has to go over a hoop to stay off the lettuce, and then you cut on said line. With scissors. For 50 feet. And try to stay in a straight line. And, if you're like me, fail at that. If you're even luckier, your husband will need two more of these but only 25 feet! The lettuce and spinach beds are happy now!
What did I learn? That shade cloth can extend the growing season of plants that otherwise would just bolt and go to seed. That working with the land and nature, sometimes needs a little extra hand to persuade it to do things your way! Our next goal is to get overhead irrigation systems so we can cool down the plants from the blazing hot sun this summer!
