Sometimes... life gets in the way

My plan has been to blog every Saturday and after this week, I hope that I can get back into that routine. But as the title suggest... sometimes... life gets in the way of even our best laid out plans! And, I know it's Sunday, and Mother's Day (Happy Mother's Day to all of you mothers out there reading this) but, when you go through an entire day and not realize what day it is... (even though you did Saturday only things like go to the farmers market and take your daughter to work at 11:00 am instead of after school at 5:00 pm) well... you end up having to catch up a day late! I didn't want to miss two weeks in a row so I decided while the guys are outside mowing that I would take the time to catch you all up.
On May 1st, Creative Seeds Farm partnered with Ibee Jammin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT ladies and gentleman is an AWESOME thing! The owner of Ibee Jammin' is VERY picky about what goes into her canned goods and because she trusts our way of doing things, if she can get it from us, she will! And, as things progress, if she needs it, we will do our best to grow it! We also will be teaming up at the farmers market here in Glade Spring starting May 19th! It's been a pretty exciting thing for us! With all this excitement, we have been pretty busy planting seeds and starts while still making time to cut, wash, spin, dry and bag lettuce, spinach and kale for our salad mixes and if those "two" things don't need to be done we've been out buying plant starts for the new partnership and the farm. And if it wasn't enough trying to find time for all of this while taking care of two kids and there various appointments and practices and jobs.... we've also had to do all this while working around mother nature and her need to make it rain constantly!
Speaking of raining... Last weekend, was a blast *insert sarcasm here*. Our renter, unannounced to us and trying to be nice, dug up our water pipe to move our outside spigot and discovered a leak in the pipe coming off the main shut off meter. And due to the notice that came out a couple of months ago, anything coming off the meter into the house is now our responsibility! Now, when you live in a really old farm house with the original piping from the 1940's, things tend to get a little tricky. Friday afternoon into the evening and pretty much all of Saturday, in the pouring rain mind you, we dug (trying to find pipes) and cut (why was the pipe T'd off into a tree?) (And just so you know, the pipe for the spigot is like a maze that we still haven't figured out) and attempted to replace parts of this pipe. House family vs water pipe.... can you guess who won? YEP! That's right... the pipe! So a day and a half without water plus 1 - 2 extra children in the house made for a fantastic weekend!! Saturday evening, after we cut and removed about 5 feet of pipe and not being able to get the new parts to connect properly, we gave up, and called a friend of ours, who so graciously sent us her husband. He showed up and assessed the situation... did a few magic tricks and after more than 24 hours of our failed attempts at fixing this thing, he had it fixed in less than 15 minutes. So what did I learn last week? That SOMETIMES, you have to call someone that actually knows what they are doing, if you want to get things done!
As always, thank you for stopping by and learning with me. And, as you can tell, sometimes I don't even learn about farming lol!
